Connect - Tell me exactly what lengths you went to in trying to track down information about Vernon McAlister. Was anyone else involved in your search?
RLJ - Web research emails contacting the store owner that took it in on trade...all to no avail.
Connect - Your previous albums have all been recorded in dedicated, professional recording studios. This one was tracked in your attic on your own setup. Can you describe for our readers the actual environment in which you composed and captured this music?
RLJ - A small room with no windows.
Connect - Why go to the expense and trouble to record your own record instead of letting someone else handle the minutiae and "heavy lifting?" Was there a long learning curve to get you up to speed at engineering your own sessions?
RLJ - I was just trying to see if it could be done without involving other people and see if the end result was acceptable to the record companies.
Although I could not have done it without the help of Shane at Annie's Guitars helping me setup the hardware. Lauren Weinger helped unravel the mess I made of the tracks and Gabe Hermann who went to great lengths to mix everything to optimize the effect.
Connect - What sort of gear did you use for this? Are the multiple tracks one hears the result of overdubbing, or were you manually looping and synching up your interlocking lines live using effects pedals?
