The promo pack promised this won't be another new-age guitarist with amazing finger technique hammering you softly into an aural state of lethargy.
Johnson is as good as those words. Using watercolor techniques with enamel paints is one way to describe the sonic pictures of this artist. Blazing images from unorthodox technique and unidentifiable tunings prove his claims to be totally self taught. The songs themselves are solidly constructed. -Sounding often like a one man jam session, he feeds off his own energy in a self inspiring circular logic. I don't like to compare artists to others, as similarity can often be equated witimitation, overshadowing an artists creativity. That's not going to happen here. This man plays against the sound box of the guitar, becoming at least three voices in a solo piece. This is highly recommended for its artistry, production and music.
